The Carnegie Science Center and Heinz Field are nearby, as well as River Park.

Brightwood’s amenities include the Woods Run Branch of Carnegie Library and the Ohio River Riverfront Trail. The local shoppingdistrict includes two financial institutions, supermarket, cleaners, florist, pet care shop, corner stores, coffee shop, funeral home, liquor store and beer distributor, car parts store, and various food establishments. Nonprofit Providence Family Support Center and other excellent daycare facilities help make Brightwood a delightfulfamily neighborhood.

Brightwood is a residential neighborhood of two-story affordably priced frame and brick homes, many of which are occupied by a diverse group of residents, including descendants of the area's original Slovak, Irish, Italian, Russian, and German immigrants, and African-American families.

Friendly neighbors who are serious about their commitment to their neighborhood are the rule in this community. The neighborhood organization, the Brightwood Civic Group, schedules regular community meetings which are open to the public. The neighborhood holds an Annual Pumpkinfest on the third Saturday in October, and sponsors the Western PA Conservancy flower garden at the corner of Marshall and California Avenues, as well as various other beautification areas.

The Brightwood Civic Group maintains a convenient storefront office at 3127 Brighton Road. The organization can also be contacted by email, brightwoodcivic@verizon.net, or by phone 412-732-8152.
